Project Brief
As the fashion world had to adapt and move to a purely digital landscape due to COVID-19, brands had to move quickly to break through all of the noise. We brought Khaite’s latest collections into the homes of its customers using augmented reality. To ensure widespread accessibility and to take the burden of accessing the experience off of consumers, Khaite asked us to build two WebAR experiences that are deeply interactive, highlighting the unique details of KHAITE’s footwear and clothing designs in a way that offers endless creative freedom for the user.
My Role
The design team had less than a week of time to come up all UX&UI for each project. I was in charge of the user flow and all UI components for both projects. At the same time, I assisted the dev team on creating realistic lighting in AR environment.
The Design
Khaite Spring/Summer 2020
Khaite shipped lookbooks that had QR codes embedded within the experience, made by Chandelier Creative, that when scanned take you to the AR experience where users can see the shoes at scale in their own homes. This allowed customers to get a feel for the items without being able to see them in person. This experience allowed Khaite to create a visual experience that otherwise would only exist inside one of their showrooms.
After we validated the function and user flow with the client, we then created the pototype base on Khiate’s website branding guideline.
Tap To Place
Users can choose from a selection of shoes to inspect, and tap to place it on a flat surface to be able to see it from every angle.
Scan To Place
Integrated into the experience is a catalog that can be scanned at any time to inspect different designs. The book was interactive and didn’t require QR codes, just simply pointing the camera at the book and the experience opens.
Rotate, Move, Inspect
In order to get a full visual of all the designs, users could view them from any angle and vantage point due to the 360 rendering.
Khaite Pre-Fall 2021
In the second iteration of the experience, for Khaite’s pre-fall 2021 collection, ROSE expanded the experience to include models rendered in augmented reality, allowing for users to be able to see the clothing in the way it was meant to be seen. This second experience allows users to place the models wearing the new line in environment they choose as they move to demonstrate the physical properties of each item.
Capturing the Looks
Using 3D scanning and green screen video allowed us to recreate the shoes with precision accuracy and capture the movement of the clothing on the models.
After we capture all the walks. We adjust the app direction based on the virtual space needed for the model to show on user’s screen. Our users can see Khaite’s full fashion show at anywhere and anytime. Users can check out the full collection on Khaite’s website. Which could lead to potencial online purchase.
Project Result
The short project is the leading AR project in the fashion industry. The project with Khaite featured in Vogue, British Vogue, The New York Times, and Harper’s Bazaar and entered Shorty awards as finalist. The project also help Khiate increased their sales by 400% compares to the same season last year.
